In 1996, Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt LB81 received approval from the Ministry of Health and Welfare (currently the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW)) to be labeled as a Food for Specified Health Use (FOSHU).*On September 1, 2009, tasks related to FOSHU were transferred to the Consumer Affairs Agency from the MHLW.

What is a Food for Specified Health Use (FOSHU)?
